CALIFORNIA LAW FOR SCHOOLS — Whooping cough (pertussis) has been widespread in California and to help protect your children and others from whooping cough, a recent California law requires students to be vaccinated against whooping cough. Since the 2014-15 school year, all students entering 7th grade need proof of the whooping cough booster shot (Tdap) before starting school. By law, students who do not have proof of receiving a Tdap booster shot can not start school until proof is provided to the school. (The tetanus-diphtheria booster shot, Td, will not meet the requirement.)
- It can be met by receiving one dose of Tdap vaccine on or after the 7th birthday
- Provide a copy of proof of vaccination to the school
- Your child will NOT be placed on a class list until the vaccine is confirmed
- If you wish to request an exemption due to medical reasons, please contact your healthcare provider
